More info on the triathlon fundraiser in Hong Kong

This is from Toby who will be competing in the triathlon:

Hi everyone. So recently I learned that a very good friend of mine has been given the sad news that one of his daughters has leukemia. She is undergoing treatment now and the full cost of the treatment is not nearly covered by their insurance. Therefore I am going to be competing in the Hong Kong international triathlon (Olympic distance) on 27th October '14 and trying to raise some money to help them through this difficult time.
Rather than just looking for sponsorship for taking part, I'm uping the bet and asking you all to challenge me on how well I can do. This means that the more I suffer, the more you sponsor.
There are around 50 guys competing in my age group and what I'm proposing is that you agree to contribute 1usd (or pound or euro etc..) if I place 20th or lower in my age group. For each higher place that I achieve on the day I will ask for an extra dollar. That means a max of 20usd for first place (and let's be honest that's not gonna happen!!)
I promise that I'll do my part and give absolutely everything that I have to get Chelsea Douthwaite a good result. All you have to do is like this post or comment and I'll do the rest. Please get on board. Child leukemia is a terrible fight and we have do everything we can to help families going through it.
Xxxxx
Toby

Around the World

Over the years of living abroad, Angie and Simon have touched so many lives and made wonderful friends. The outpouring of support from around the world is a testament to this. Here are some of the generous events that have taken place or are coming up:

In August, the Gibraltar Volleyball Association raised money at their annual beach volleyball tournament by accepting donations for the Douthwaites. Thank you Emma!

In September, 7 of Simon's best mates who live in Hong Kong raised close to $1800 CA by shaving their heads in honor of Chelsea's battle and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. A beautiful video can be found on Simon and Angie's Facebook walls. Thank you to the Sai Kung Boys!

This past week the Douthwaites received an amazing care package from a large group of Angie's volleyball teammates from her college days at Malaspina, now known as Vancouver Island University. The idea originated from a teammate who now lives in Atlanta, Georgia. She collected money from more than 25 teammates and coaches (now living all over North America), purchased an array of goodies for Chelsea and Sophie, including an IPad Mini, and mailed it off to Malaysia. Thank you, Chelsea and everyone who contributed!

On October 27th, 2 of Simon's childhood friends will be tackling the Hong Kong International Olympic Distance Triathlon (1.5km swim, 40km bike, 10km run). They have been fundraising for the Douthwaites based on their predicted finish times. We wish Jim and Toby all the best and thank those who have supported them!

In Malaysia over 40 members of the Mentor Program that Angie is working with are having funds deducted from their salaries for Chelsea's treatment. It is a huge sacrifice for these individuals and the Douthwaites are extremely touched. Thank you!

There have also been individual donations from Ghana, Thailand, Australia, The United States, Gibraltar, Spain, Hong Kong, Dubai and Canada!

As you can see, the support from around the world is just incredible. Angie and Simon are so extremely grateful and touched by everyone's generosity, whether on an individual basis or a group effort. They would not be able to get through this without all of your help. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

xoxo

Updates from Simon and Angie on Chelsea's Risk Category

Simon

"We had a wonderful week with Chelsea! She has been full of life and laughter and cheek. Tough day yesterday, as we found out she was not in the lowest risk category we had been hoping for, but is intermediate instead, which is a blow, although much, much better than high risk. Her chances are still very good, and we are extremely thankful to all the parents over the last 50 years or so who have bravely allowed their sick kids to be part of medical trials and studies - without that we would be looking at a truly awful prognosis today. I am just back from hospital, and Angie is in, as Chelsea has been having her first batch of brain focused chemo. As of a few minutes ago she was laughing down the phone with me and had just been for a walkabout with her mummy - tricky dragging 2 machines and 2 separate lines around but she doesn't care! - and apparently she did a dragon roar at a gruffalo... she is simply awesome. Thank you again to all of you from all of us for your love and support - it is truly helping us stay strong! xo"

Angie (Oct. 10th):
"Chelsea is now back home and has been happily playing with her toys, dressing up in her tutus and ballet slippers!"

She is a strong girl who continues to amaze everyone with her resilience!
The higher risk category means that Chelsea's treatment will be longer, include higher doses of Chemotherapy and has a higher chance of relapse. We ask that everyone continue to pray for Chelsea and send her healing energy. Please also keep Angie, Simon and Sophie in your thoughts; they need all of our support.

Thank you

Prayers for Chelsea

Hello Everyone,

Here's an update from Angie:

"'Chelsea the Brave' is being admitted into hospital again tomorrow...  another battering of bone marrow and IT collection, followed up with 24 hours of high dosage chemotherapy to attack any cancer cells hiding in her brain... followed by another couple days of rescue and recovery meds."

As Chelsea has been so happy and healthy lately it is heart wrenching to have to put her through these high dose treatments. We ask for your prayers and positive thoughts that Cheslea gets through this week with the most minimal of side effects and the most positive of outcomes.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

9 year old raises $350!!

A special 9 year old, the daughter of good friends of Angie and Simon, raised $350.00 in support of Chelsea! Her 9th birthday was approaching and instead of wanting birthday presents for herself she asked that her friends make a donation to help the Douthwaites! It is confirmation that angels come in all ages! We would like to extend a huge heartfelt thank you to Lily-Anne for her generous act.

A few updates...

Chelsea had a long day at chemo on Monday but she is still singing and dancing!! She had a port placed in her chest so injections are much less painful and scary. She no longer has to be poked every time she goes to the hospital! Tuesday marks another big day as Chelsea must be checked into the hospital for 4 nights. Hospital stays are stressful and exhausting for the family. Angie and Simon rotate nights staying over with Chelsea while Grandma Nixon helps with Sophie and day to day life.

Thank you for all of the donations so far; every penny has helped tremendously and the Douthwaites are extremely grateful. With donors permission we are posting names on the Current Amount Raised page. If you don't see your name and would like it added please let us know via the email found below. For any questions about donating please check out the Donate Now page or email teamchelsea3@gmail.com

Photos and fundraising events will be posted soon so keep checking back for more updates.
